We are an incorporated not for profit organisation. It started as a number of unrelated Arts groups, Plantagenet Potters being the oldest, who were well established and meeting in the Old Police Museum. Then in 1987 we incorporated under the name of Plantagenet Arts Council. In 2021 we changed our name again to the current – Mitchell House Arts Centre as we felt the majority of the membership were visual arts based and this better reflected our name.
We have been operating at our current location of 42 Albany Hwy, Mount Barker since sometime after 1987. The Shire of Plantagenet acquired the building, Mitchell House, in 1986 and added a kitchen, bathroom/toilet, and a long extension on the rear of the building which was then used by the potters group and the rest of the group moved into the space in 1987.
Mitchell House is accessed by members and visitors 5 days a week for most of the year. (Closed over Christmas and New year) and there are groups accessing the building for studio work and learning three days a week.
We are currently staffed by volunteers and the Board is all volunteer based.
You can contact us on mitchellhse21@gmail.com or drop into the centre Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, or Sunday. see opening times Here
